WEEK SEVEN

May 15, 2006 Today, we make the success page. This page contains a message that the mobile phone number of the user has been successfully loaded. It also has a home button that will lead the user to the home page. We also make the main page of our site. We also started our support page. This page contains a text box for the user who wants to send a feedback to loadmoco.

May 16, 2006 During this day, we worked on the about us. In this page, we put an information about the site and also we included a shout box downloaded from oggix.com.

May 17, 2006 Today,we we linked the Reload now, Support and About us buttons. We also started the documentation of the site. We finished 1/3 of it.

May 18, 2006 Finally, were're done with the documentation.

May 19, 2006 It's our D' day!!!! Time to present our work.

WEEK SIX

May 8, 2006 We continue the design of our web page. We added some graphics and animation on it. At this day, we started making our home page. It contains a drop down list of diferrent networks, text box for the mobile phone number and a text box for the amount of load. We make some codings to the drop down list of networks and an error trapping on the mobile phone number. Also, we put some buttons that lets the user choose whether he/she wants to continue the transaction or to reset the inputs for some changes that will take place.

May 9, 2006 We are done with our home page the next would be the confirm page. This page contains the data entered by the user it can be called as a summary because it allows the user to view the data he/she entered like the network provider, mobile phone number and the preferred amount of load. It contains also a text box for the user to enter his/her email address where the website will send the confirmation message informing the user that the mobile phone number is being loaded. Also, buttons are included which lets the user to continue the process or to let the user go back to the home page for some editing.

May 10, 2006 We continue the confirm page. We put an error traping in entering email address. Once the information entered by the user did not match with the condition an error message will pop up. It took us almost one day to search for the codes in error traping.

May 11, 2006 Finally, we found out the right codes for the error traping. We started the pay page. In the morning, we searched on the neccessary requirements for the payment form. We decided to include the following: First Name and Last Name of the credit card holder, credit card number, credit card type and credit card verification number. After that, buttons were again included the reset button and load now button. Reset button is to clear all the inputted data from the pay page. Load now button is to load the mobile phone number of the user. Again, an error traping is also included. The user must fill all the required fields in the pay page. Once, a field is left blank it will not lead the user to the next page.

May 12, 2006 In the morning we continued our daily routine activities regarding our project. Around 10:00 am we were ask to proceed in Star Plaza Hotel to attend the on-going Microsoft Summit as instructed by Sir Wilson. The venue is located at the sixth floor of the Star Plaza Hotel. When we arrived at the venue the summit had already started and the discussion is already going on. The summit had three speakers. The first speaker discussed about Asset Management Overview particularly on Subscription and buy out of Microsoft Licence for the differenet Microsoft products that is used by the Microsoft partners nationwide. After the talk, the speaker ask the audience if there any question about the topic. After a few minutes, it was the turn of the second speaker and discussed about Software Asset Management (SAM). A few minutes of discussion also followed. Just like the first speaker, there was a question and answer portion. Then finally followed by the last speaker. He dicussed about the Microsoft Windows Vista and the Microsoft Office2007.

He mentioned about the five editions of the Windows Vista which includes the following with their respective features:

1. Windows Vista Home Basic
2. Windows Vista Home Premium
3. Windows Vista Business
4. Windows Vista Enterprise
5. Windows Vista Ultimate

WEEK FIVE

May 1, 2006 LABOR DAY......uhhhh..walang PASOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

May 2, 2006 We had some problems today because the Beta Version of Visual Studio we are using has just expired. So we downloaded the express version of it. This is a free download but this version has some features missing. After download, we uninstalled the expired Beta and installed the express version immediately. In our group, we only downloaded Visual Web Developer because it is all we need.

We are thankful that the express version of Visual Studio is fully compatible with the files that we created using the Beta Version. Or else..we will have to start over again..

May 3, 2006 We helped Caren in designing the interface of their website. The task is somewhat difficult because their client wants the color of their logo retained on the site. The color of their logo comes with bright yellow and orange. If we are not careful, the result would look like a kindergarten art. We tried some concepts todat and this is what we came up to:

May 4, 2006 Today we have finished our homepage! Now, it can already accept data and able to pass it to our paypage (paypage.aspx).

We encountered so many problems in doing this but our time and effort solving them was worth it. Not to mention the things we learn during the process..

May 5, 2006 We started doing our paypage today. The job of the paypage is to accept the values passed by home.aspx and display it. It is also where the user will input his payment account information. We researched on the net on how to catch data or pass data between aspx pages. We found one and it uses querystring, but this method made our site not to run properly, we don't know why. We planned to use cookies but it was too difficult for us and we are running out of time so we chose the easiest and secure way that is using context.items.

We hope next week we can already make our website accept inputs and pass them on our SQL Server Database.

WEEK FOUR

April 24, 2006 Today, we installed the trial versions of the softwares we need in the development of the multimedia content of our website. We did'nt install them immediately after we downloaded them last tuesday because these are only 30-day trial versions and they might expire before we even finish our project. We started making the interface of our site immediately and this is what we came up to:

In the afternoon, we converted our design to HTML format then we researched on SQL on the net. We plan to continue with our multimedia content tommorow.

April 25, 2006 We continued developing the multimedia content of our site. We used Flash to add some animations to our site. We had a problem in converting our design to an HTML page because our slices were not that organized. There were some clippings and table errors so we sliced our image in Photoshop again and converted it using Dreamweaver. The animations we did in Flash were also affected because the were some changes in the size of the images.

In the afternoon, We converted our HTML page to an ASPX page using Visual Web Developer. We copied the HTML code from our page to an empty ASPX file then we tried to run it and it worked!!!! A problem solved!

April 26, 2006 We had a problem today. When we try to add a component like a textbox or a dropdown list on to our page and run it, an error message appears on the browser. The error says that the component we added and "runat=server" code should be inside a form tag. All of us in our group dont have that much experience on HTML coding because we learned HTML the WYSIWYG way so we reasearched on the net about form tags.

In the afternoon, we continued researching on how we can solve our problem but we still can't find a topic specific enough for our problem. I tried and tried making codes on form tags until i came up with these codes.

I tried to run the page again and IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!
Another day...a problem solved..good times..good times...

April 27, 2006 Today, we tried to tinker around the SQL management studio and learned how to create tables, relationships and keys. The thing that we cannot understand is how we can connect the database we made to our web application through the network.

We also continued with our design and added background to our site.
We also researched on how to make a simple shoutbox on ASP.NET because we plan to have a shoutbox in our site to provide interaction between our users.

April 28, 2006 We continued to research on making shoutboxes on the net the whole morning but we didn't find any. The only ones available are on ASP language, not ASP.NET.

We also have successfully added some components to our site. This is how it looks like on a web browser:

WEEK THREE

April 17, 2006 Me, Marcelo and a companion were called downstairs once again to set up SNORT because we did not test it if it is working properly the last time. The manual we were using the last time is too difficult for us. There is just too many things in the front-end panel (IDScenter) that we do not understand. So, we tried searching the net for a simpler manual. We found one at lazyadmin.com and it is a SNORT set up manual made for Windows 2003. When we followed the first step in the manual(the manual is command line based), it gave us an error saying that the rule files are missing. So, we downloaded rule files from the SNORT website. After copying the rules in the rules directory, we went back to the first step and it worked.

We managed to follow the rest of the steps but our main problem is on the logging. The log directory was always empty even if SNORT has been running for some time. We already set SNORT to log on our "C:\Snort\Log" directory. SNORT should begin logging packet captures after execution.

At the end of the day, we still don't have a clue on how to solve the problem.

April 18, 2006 Today, we've been training on ASP. All of us in our group does not have any background in ASP and SQL so we expect that this will be "madugo" for us.

In the afternoon we downloaded the softwares we will be using in the development of the multimedia content of our website. We got 30 day trial versions of Macromedia Flash, Dreamweaver and Fireworks. We also downloaded the trial version of Photoshop CS2 because this is the graphics software we are all familliar with in our group.

April 19, 2006 We trained on Visual Web Developer today by using the MSDN Library. Our group followed some walkthroughs like creating a simple ASPX page and designing master pages. We also learned on Additional Page Techniques like creating reusable elements with an ASP.NET user control.

In the afternoon, we had trouble with our computer. It cannot detect our keyboard and its causing our PC not to boot. We did nothing for an hour because we were waiting for the technician to fix it. At around 4:30, we tried to boot our computer and surprisingly, it was able to detect our keyboard. The only thing we managed to do today is to learn a little on ASP.NET. We hope we can learn a little faster on the following days..

April 20, 2006 We've done some Visual Web Developer walkthroughs today. We are still on "Additional Page Techniques". We are trying our best not just to follow the steps but to try and see how the code works.

In the afternoon, we tried some design concepts for our website and researched on SQL. All of us in our group don't have a background on these so we need a lot of researching and training.

April 21, 2006 Today, we started doing the next set of workthroughs on Visual Web Developer, "Data-Driven Webpages". The first workthrough shows basic access on webpages. This is our first time to connect a database to a webpage. The following workthroughs were somewhat complicated because the procedures were long and we cannot understand a lot on its sample code. Maybe we'll understand it better in the following days..

We also discussed some concepts for the design of our website in the afternoon and planned to try to make the design on Photoshop but we did'nt have enough time.

April 22, 2006 We tried to continue our work downstairs, setting up SNORT. Sir Wilson asked us to set up the automatic Online Update feature of the software. After looking at the Online Update interface, we thought that this would be easy. We'll just have to download some requirements, like a PERL interpreter program and OinkMaster (a freeware for updating SNORT). Oinkmaster provided us with some required files for the job. After setting up all the requirements, we tried to test it but we encountered an error. The error said that we cannot write on the temporary folder on where we are storing the files downloaded during update. We were stuck at this error the whole morning.

In the afternoon, we took a look at the IDSCenter manual and it said that we should download EagleX in order to use the Update feature. So, we download and install EagleX then tried to test the update once again. Just as we expected, another error showed up. Snort does not detect a GZIP file, we browsed the eagleX directory and we found GZIP.exe. We tried putting GZIP on every directory just to test if it will make the SNORT detect it but we failed...But the bigger problem with EagleX is that it makes SNORT fail to start. When we installed EagleX, SNORT began behaving strangely and failed to start. When we tried uninstalling EagleX, SNORT managed to run again showing us that EagleX is holding SNORT down. We still don't know if its a version incompatibility or not.

The day ended without the problem solved.... = (

WEEK TWO

April 10, 2006 Today, we installed the MSDN library for Visual Studio 2005. We only had one copy of the installer and a CD drive so we had to open each computer in our network every after installation. Every installation took nearly 2 hours so we've been installing the MSDN library almost the whole day.

The rest of the group was researching for information we need for our website project.

April 11, 2006 Installation of Visual Studio 2005 Beta 2 has been finished. The installation took the whole morning though. This will be the IDE we will be using in developing our projects.

In the afternoon, we started exploring the software immediately. We also tried to find ASP samples on the net and tried to open them with the software.

All of us in our group wants to learn ASP this summer and we hope we can learn it at a decent pace in order to finish our website project in time.

April 12,13,14 2006 HOLY WEEK........bakasyon!!!

WEEK ONE

Welcome to our Blog! We are the third group (G3) from the OJT students from University of Saint Louis Tuguegarao.

Marcelo J. Raquepo Jr.
Nerlina Rances
Josephine Pamittan
Shaine Viernes

This blog serves as a documentation on what we will be doing during our OJT here at BitStop Dagupan. This is our first post...a late post. =p

April 1, 2006 After the brief orientation with the owner of Bitstop Mr. Wilson Chua, we listened to an audiobook about e-commerce. It talks about making relationships between businesses and consumers rather than purely making transactions.

April 3, 2006 We continued with the remaining content of the audiobook that we did'nt finish. After that, we were provided with computers that we will use for the duration of our OJT. They made us set up these computers and install the required softwares by ourselves. In the afternoon, we made UTP cables for the network which we will use for our computers. Mr. Wilson also partially demonstrated to us the Network Load Balancing feature of Windows Server 2003 before going home.

April 4, 2006 We installed the required operating systems for our network. Our network is consist of three workstations that will run Windows XP and two servers that will run Windows Server 2003. We were not so lucky in setting up the Network Load Balance on our two servers though.

April 5, 2006 The network we set up was not that good so we fixed the glitches we made yesterday. In the afternoon, we have not been able to do anything than browsing the net because Mr. Wilson had a meeting and not able to give us instructions on what to do.

April 6, 2006 In the morning we did some installation. We installed SQL 2005 in the Windows Server 2003 environment.
We were also able to solve the problem that we encountered in setting up the Network Load Balance. We found out that the computer that we were using had a hardware issue, probably not the LAN card because we once tried to replace it and the result is the same.We tried to use another computer and it worked instantly. We were all relieved because setting up Network Load Balance had been holding us down for the past days.

April 7, 2006 Re-installation of Windows XP, .Net and SQL. The installations took a lot of hours (nearly the whole of the day) so we were all surfing the net that day while waiting.

me..Marcelo and Mike

were tasked to install an IDS (Intrusion Detection System) by sir Wilson. Sir Wilson also asked us to make screenshots as we set up the system. We used SNORT, an open source network intrusion detection system.

According to what we have discovered by following its manual, it makes the computer on which it is installed stealth. It can perform port scans, detect CGI attacks, buffer overflows and other network attacks. The software has tons of settings and configurations that we do not understand aside from the terms we learned from our C.S.I. subject.
On our first try to run the program, we encountered different errors. We tried to debug them and somehow we managed to solve them. After that, we configured the software step by step by following the manual and made made screenshots as a documentation.

Although we did'nt set up the software in its entirety, we did managed to learn something from the experience. After our OJT, we will try to go back and learn this software or even other IDS softwares by ourselves. Because network security is vital on data security and securing is kinda fun...
